ZEBRA ZC100 Product Review
With a compact design, high-quality resolution and reliable security features, the Zebra ZC100 ID card printer is the perfect, all-round, single-sided printer.
The simple usability, including an easy load-and-go ribbon, enables effortless printing and the multiple encoding upgrades allow you to personalise your printer to suit any need.
Be assured not just by the operation of the Zebra ZC100, but by the guaranteed high-quality of the cards produced.
In an outstanding 300dpi print resolution, the ZC100 ensures colours are printed in vibrant, photo-like quality, and monochrome black resin produces sharp, crisp text and accurate barcodes.
Zebra have assured that this printer will always live up to the highest standards and this is backed by a two-year unlimited warranty on both the printer and printhead.
The intuitive interface in the newly-designed driver makes using the ZC100 completely hassle-free. The visual display allows you to not only see clear instructions but also see how your card looks and how setting changes impact the card design. This eliminates having to print test cards.
Zebra have also created an effortless manual card feed by making a lightpipe that guides the user through the manual feeding process, just the same as automatic machines do. This creates a simple feeding process, allowing cards to be printed quickly and efficiently.
Alongside this, the re-designed hopper allows cards to be loaded and unloaded quickly and easily. The saloon-style output doors enable you to simply take out the cards, and by making both the input and output hoppers have the same card capacity, this means your hoppers can be emptied and refilled at the same time.
With no time-consuming set-up, you can simply plug in your ZC100 and start printing instantly. The clear user manual is also on-hand to guide you through the user interface, ensuring you make the most of your printer.
The Zebra ZC100 comes with a printer cover Kensington lock to prevent card theft and comes with AES data encryption to protect sensitive data during printing such as account numbers.
Advanced security features also enable a main host to grant and deny printer access. This stops any unauthorised devices using the printer, which is a necessary option when using the printer through Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity.
The Zebra ZC100 has additional encoding options to add to the original model. This includes a magnetic stripe encoder with both high and low coercivity. You can also choose the contactless encoding option which will allow you to add a third party contactless encoder to create ‘pass through’ contactless cards.
The ZC100 prints edge-to-edge on CR79 and standard CR80 credit-card sized cards in PVC and PVC composite material. It also prints on adhesive back and writable back cards.
Size isn’t an issue with the Zebra ZC100. Its exact dimension are 25.8cm (H) x 15.7cm (W) x 38.3cm (L) and weighs only 3.9kgs, making it perfect for fitting neatly onto a desk.
The Zebra ZC100 surpasses its predecessors with its new design. The thin shape makes it perfect for inconspicuously slotting onto a desk while the monochrome white and black colours enable a universal fit in any office environment.
The Zebra ZC100 is a dye-sublimation thermal transfer direct-to-card (DTC) printer model. DTC printing means the card design is taken from the ribbon and then printed directly onto the surface of the card to give it a glossy, professional finish. This allows full-colour or monochrome single-sided printing in an edge-to-edge format.
For faster speed, the Zebra ZC100 has been made to print up to 30% faster in monochrome and 15% faster in full-colour than the Zebra ZXP Series 1 card printer model. With the ability to print 150 full-colour cards per hour and up to a massive 700 monochrome cards per hour, the ZC100 is perfect for organisations wanting to print a medium to large volume of high-quality, single-sided cards.
Connect to your computer using the onboard USB to allow for standalone printing. The additional Ethernet and Wi-Fi options give instant access to multiple users, maximising printer usage. This also eliminates any time and cost it takes to run network cabling.
The Zebra ZC100 is compatible with Microsoft Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012, 7, 8, 10, Mac OS, and Linux.
Our expert verdict is to award the Zebra ZC100 3.5 stars out of 5. It offers stunning quality printing resolution alongside a number of encoding options to tailor printed cards to any need or design. As well as this, its simple operation gives the user complete ease of use, and the security options ensure whoever is printing and what you are printing is safe and secure.
The only downfalls of this printer are the lack of security printing features such as UV, laminate and holograms and because there is no option for dual-sided printing. This is why Zebra have created the ZC300.
